Overview

Savute, a region within the southwestern part of Chobe National Park in Botswana, is renowned for its dramatic landscapes, rich wildlife, and unique geological features. Covering an area of approximately 5,000 square kilometers, Savute is characterized by the Savute Marsh, the Savute Channel, and the ancient Magwikhwe Sand Ridge. This area is famous for its dynamic ecosystem, which is influenced by the erratic flow of the Savute Channel.

Wildlife

  • Mammals: Savute is known for its high predator density, particularly lions, leopards, cheetahs, and spotted hyenas. It is also home to elephants, buffalo, zebras, wildebeests, giraffes, and various antelope species, including kudu and impala.
  • Birdlife: The region hosts a diverse array of bird species, including the kori bustard, secretary bird, and various raptors. During the wet season, migratory birds add to the avian diversity.
  • Predator-Prey Interactions: Savute is famous for intense predator-prey interactions, especially during the dry season when animals congregate around water sources.
