Overview

The Khwai Concession, located in northern Botswana, is a private reserve adjacent to the Moremi Game Reserve and the Okavango Delta. This pristine wilderness area covers approximately 180,000 hectares and is renowned for its diverse ecosystems, abundant wildlife, and picturesque landscapes. The concession is managed by the local Khwai community, which is deeply involved in conservation and tourism activities.

Wildlife

  • Mammals: The Khwai Concession is home to a rich variety of mammals, including elephants, lions, leopards, cheetahs, African wild dogs, hyenas, hippos, and numerous species of antelope such as impala, kudu, and lechwe.
  • Birdlife: The area is a haven for bird watchers, with over 450 bird species recorded. Notable sightings include the malachite kingfisher, African fish eagle, and carmine bee-eater.
  • Aquatic Life: The Khwai River, which flows through the concession, supports a thriving aquatic ecosystem, with crocodiles and various fish species being common.
