Okavango Delta & Moremi
Overview
Moremi Game Reserve, located in the heart of Botswana’s Okavango Delta, is one of Africa’s most famous wildlife reserves. Covering approximately 5,000 square kilometers, Moremi combines mopane woodland, acacia forests, floodplains, and lagoons, creating a diverse and vibrant ecosystem. The reserve is named after Chief Moremi of the BaTawana tribe, who played a significant role in its establishment.
Wildlife
- Mammals: Moremi is home to a wide variety of mammals, including elephants, lions, leopards, cheetahs, African wild dogs, buffalo, hippos, and numerous antelope species.
- Birdlife: With over 500 bird species, Moremi is a birdwatcher’s paradise. Common sightings include the African fish eagle, saddle-billed stork, and various kingfishers and bee-eaters.
- Aquatic Life: The waterways of the Okavango Delta within Moremi are teeming with life, including crocodiles and a variety of fish species.
